Denver Public Schools realizes the importance of student achievement, as well as a healthy and highly functioning instructional core, which is defined by the interactions among engaged students, effective teachers, and rigorous content. Focusing on and improving our instructional core will mean that teaching, schools, and systems are well-organized to provide consistent, high-quality instruction that engages and challenges all students in acquiring the skills, strategies, understanding, and knowledge necessary for the 21st century.
To improve student achievement and close the achievement gaps, DPS offers comprehensive new educator and ongoing support and professional development. The aim is to use data and best practice information to evaluate and continuously improve our instructional programs. This includes:
- English Language Acquisition (ELA) Academy
- New Teacher Mentoring
- Induction Support
- Summer and year-long Professional Development at the individual, team, school, and district levels
- Rigorous, standards-based curricula and assessments
