Denver nears three million residents and continues to grow, largely as a result of the businesses that call Denver home. Denver’s population is young and educated; Colorado has the second-largest percentage of residents with a bachelor’s degree or higher (36%) and the metro Denver area is even larger at 40%. The median age is 36 years, and Denver attracts young, active, urban professionals who want to enjoy the high quality of life, lower cost of living, and quality environment found here.
32% of Denver’s population is ethnically diverse; the Hispanic population comprised 22% of the population in 2008, and all groups continue to grow. Denver is also home to a concentrated, diverse DPS student body coming from largely impoverished, transitional families. There is a stark contrast in Denver's demographics and those of the student population, which is 80% ethnically diverse compared to Denver's 32%.
Community Collaboration
The Denver Public Schools district has strong backing from a dedicated Governor, Mayor, and Superintendent, all with a vision to offer world-class education to every student in Denver, and rapidly accelerate student achievement. Innovative and strategic partnerships between the education, business, and Denver civic communities contribute to this vision of achievement.
