The Denver Public Schools district recognizes the importance of a quality education for every child, a quality teacher in every classroom, and the right school for every child. We are working hard to build on our rich and diverse array of school options and are a district of choice. Though students in most cases are guaranteed enrollment at their neighborhood school, they may enroll in any school in the district (if there is space available and they meet the entrance requirements).

Every child has different learning needs and interests, and education is not one-size-fits-all. We offer a wide variety of enrichment and after-school programs, whether they be focused on academics, arts, or sports, that are essential to a well-rounded educational experience for our children.

We expect the best from our schools and our students. We want to see excellence in every one of our classrooms, and we’re working hard to get there. We need to do everything we can to ensure that every one of our students graduates from high school prepared for success in college or career. To help meet students’ unique learning needs, the 162 DPS schools offer unique learning environments to teachers and to families. In 2010-2011, DPS had:

  • 73 elementary schools
  • 16 K-8 schools
  • 4 K-12 schools
  • 16 middle schools
  • 12 traditional high schools
  • 30 charter schools
  • 11 intensive pathways and other schools
