Denver consistently ranks as one of the top ten best places to live and is a magnet for young, diverse, and well-educated professionals. The cost of living in Denver is slightly higher than the national average, and well below that of like metropolitan areas. When coupled with the benefits of healthy living and a thriving business community, the cost of living is considered lower than average for a city the size of Denver.
Denver ranked No. 1 on the NBC Today Show's recent list of "Five Cities in America on the Verge of Recovery from the Housing Slump." They stated Denver is clearly on the rebound and a city with a vibrant downtown, a high employment base, highly educated residents, and one of the biggest park systems in the country.
Median household income was $60,344 in 2008, 15% above the national median income. The Metro Denver median sales price of existing single-family homes was $219,300 in 2008, while the national median home price was $217,800, according to the National Association of Realtors. The average rent in Metro Denver in the third quarter of 2009 for all apartments was $880.89 per month.
